I started reading this book while on a camping trip; I thought it would be an appropriate one to bring along with me. I've previously read In a Sunburned Country by Bryson, and enjoy his work so far. Like in that book, he blends history with his own experiences in a very readable and humorous way (I laughed out loud quite a bit while reading!). This did feel a bit more mean-spirited than I remember Sunburned Country being in terms of the way Bryson portrays people (e.g. dubbing a waitress Betty
