I really had to plough through Peter Carey’s The True History of the Kelly Gang ; it was a trial! Although it had some good points, as a whole this fictionalised account of the life and times of bushrangers who are household names in Australia Harry Powers, Ned Kelly, Dan Kelly, Joe Byrne et al did not impress me; I was hard pressed to see what aspects of the novel qualified it to be awarded the prestigious Booker Prize in 2001.
