What Members Thought

The voice of protagonist Thomas McNulty is striking and the language of the book beautiful at times. Descriptions of atrocities in the Indian Wars and the Civil War are harrowing in the extreme and we are left in no doubt - " Killing hurts the heart and soils the soul" p 225.
I thought some aspects of the plot implausible and as a whole, "Days Without End" much less convincing and enjoyable than Barry's previous Costa Award winning novel "The Secret Scripture". ...more
