I would describe
Boy Swallows Universe
as somewhat ‘out there’ and certainly quite different to what I was expecting. It seems to have been wildly successful and I can understand that it would appeal to a wide range of people. It was 'laugh out loud' funny very often, the characters were engaging if somewhat exaggerated in many cases, the Australian suburban settings were evocative and raw, family relationships were a crucial, obvious focus of the novel as was the question - what is it that i
