Animosity between key parties is observed in all aspects of Kamila Shamsie’s novel, which was a contender for this year’s Man Booker Prize. Perhaps because the novel is inspired by Sophocles' Greek tragedy Antigone (about 441 BC) hostile attitudes punctuate relationships between just about everything and everyone in the novel: religions, nations, brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, parents and their children and most vehemently between governments and their citizens.
