Family dynamics and secrets are at the centre of this novel; I enjoyed reading it as much as two previous novels of Maggie O'Farrell's - The Hand That First Held Mine and The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox. I thought the earlier chapters of Instructions for a Heatwave in which the motivations and personality of one character at a time were detailed proved more successful than those featuring the united but still divided family group.
