What Members Thought
This is an engaging, finely written novel detailing the background and course of the American Civil War and the wide ranging repercussions of the War on the lives of citizens (both free and bound) in the southern states of America. As this is a period of history of considerable interest to me I was impressed by the insight it offered into the attitudes of the families, slaves, generals and politicians towards a war which they believed they could not lose.
