I didn't love this book as many others have done; I thought it was OK. Although the parts of the story which told Ove and Sonia's story were excruciatingly sad they spoke volumes about the commitment and love which sustained Ove throughout his often-times contrary life.

I honestly struggled with how to write this review. So, in the end I’m going to begin with why I could have had a problem with this novel. For the first twenty pages or so I felt that Backman was laying it all on a bit thick. That Ove was one-dimensional and predictable.
And it would be easy to say that throughout the novel there a times when you can feel your heartstrings being pulled, not necessarily in a subtle way.
