Who am I to criticize a classic? Yet I can only rate a book according to my own taste and enjoyment, and the novel Candide is one I could have easily lived without ever having read. My 3 star rating is actually lifted by this edition - edited by Robert M. Adams - where I enjoyed the background and critical material far more than the text itself.
