Ok, I finally listened to my students and read this - in less than 24 hours - and they're right. It's good. Green's one-liners are classic, even if his teenagers are always unbelievably-precocious, and I love him for attempting to deal with very weighty topics in YA fiction that does not read like a soap opera as so much other YA fiction attempting to deal with these issues does. I cried too much in this. I guess that makes it a good book. I'm not usually a fan of first person, but since the MC, Hazel, is by far more intelligent than normal sixteen year old; I think I can make an exception. My favorite character in this is Agustus. I adore him. It's because of him that I did and didn't expect the book to end as it did. Agustus says in the book, page 63, that the thing about pain is that "it demands to be felt", this book is pain and is encompassed by the quote of its own
