I liked all the different Points of VIew in this book as the story was told, and I felt so sorry for the young daughter. And there were parts I really HATED the mother. But getting you thinking is something Picoult does extremely well.
We came up with a term in book club awhile ago...I think it was something like "awful-wonderful?" That was this book!!! It was not well written at all (There is NO WAY a 13 year old would think or say those things!!!!), and it's level of cheese that could compete heartily with any Nicholas Sparks novel (seriously, could there be more cliches and/or melodramatic statements in either one?!?!?!). This one hit a bit too close to home. It has really accurate descriptions and insights about parenting a medically complex child, and all the complexities and the drama that comes with it. It had some really unlikeable characters such as Campbell (I never truly cares for him or Julia much), but overall was like a sucker punch to my gut. That ending!!!
i really enjoyed this... right up until the last 10 pages or so. i didn't like the ending but most people i've talked to thought the author made a good choice.
