What if the underground railroad was an actual railroad? This book is not about the actual underground railroad, and it is not character centric. Starting from the physical railroad premise, the author presents a series of ideas and facts around racial conflict in the USA, starting from slavery, but encompassing interactions from the late 1900's and even ideas that are present today. I listened to this book on my commute. To say I enjoyed this book would be the wrong way to say it. It was an enlightening book. I am a privileged white male, so I will never understand what this book details so well. I think it is important to read books like this to remind us, regardless of our color, how bad things were, and that we still have further to go.
