So, I think this one is better than her first one, but I'm still reminded of why I didn't love the first one. I root for Mindy Kaling hard, as she's a female writer of color in the middle of Hollywood, and her voice is on-point on body image, immigrant experiences, hard work, and many other topics. I also really appreciate her candor and vulnerability, which is difficult to find in celebrity memoirs and essay collections. Kaling is a good writer and I think she's very funny. I enjoyed "Why Not Me," and there were a couple essays that I thought were excellent. But overall I just felt this collection was okay. It was mostly fun and funny... Just not as fun and funny as her first book. ...more

I had heard TERRIBLE things about this book. People were unimpressed with this book, especially if they LOVED the first one so it took me a while to finally read it. Now that I'm finished, I wish I hadn't waited. While there were chapters that are unmemorable, there are some chapters that ring so true and made me laugh hilariously out loud (in awkward places as well).
