Dystopian novels are not something I typically reach for however the prospective of the narrator of this particular tale stands apart to me. The other two novels that I feel are exemplary from this genre - The Wall and The Road - both have characters who have lived in the world as we know it. I have never read anything like this. A coworker and I plan to do this for our new library short fiction book club. It will be a perfect book for discussion. It’s a bleak yet powerful novella that’s introspective and thought provoking. I’m glad I own this as I will read it again and underlined heavily not for its lyrical beauty but to note the plot as I read it as a mystery and also lines of such powerful commentary.
