It's harder to write short than to write long, so the saying goes, and it's also harder, in my opinion, to write spare than to write flowery. Harpman nailed it. What a chilling, moving, fascinating book.
It's really effective on audio. I don't listen to a lot of fiction on audio -- which I usually reserve for memoir -- but I'm glad I gave this one a go. It really helped to humanize a cast of characters who suffered the dehumanization of their particular dystopia. ...more

Fascinating, odd and quite memorable. I expect this one will linger a long time in my memory. Worth the read for sure.
