If you like the idea of a "chosen one" and books about magic, you might enjoy this. The magic itself never makes a whole lot of sense (at least in this, the first book of the series), and really I think the best part of the story is the honest depiction of the vicious interaction of girls and the power-plays of friendship. I am on a crazy fantasy kick, for work more than for pleasure, but this book was exceedingly entertaining in a genre I don't usually love all that much (that genre being girlie fantasy books set in the 1800s at boarding schools). I might even read the next two in the series!
