Sometimes you check a book out from the library, and then it happens to be on hand when you have a lot of sitting and waiting to do, so you read it in one sitting, regardless of its actual inherent value. That’s what happened with this one. It wasn’t good, but it was interesting, in one point in particular.

A Great and Terrible Beauty has edged its way onto many a tabletop display in bookstores and I finally decided to break down and see why. To start, the cover is pretty darn alluring for its market of adolescent girls. So. I've decided that I like Libba Bray, but I just can't get into the whole petticoats and corsets deal. Steampunk or fantasy or magical realism... regardless. It's just not my bag. And yet I keep trying to read it. I'm glad to tick an item off my "books which have been on my Currently Reading list for months, half-finished" list though.

I grabbed this book on a whim (pretty cover!), and don't regret it. Pretty addictive fantasy book, kind of dark, with interesting and well-rounded characters. Not only a tale of magic, but of growing up, whether it is in Victorian England or anywhere else. Now, must track "Rebel Angels".

This one was enjoyable - Teenage girls at a boarding school in the Victorian era. Magic and heartache and all that good stuff. Her friends are kind of awful, but it worked. It was a bit over the top, but I like that. The next on will be on hold for me soon, I hope.

A very engrossing read, but I would have loved more at the end. (I'm a twit and didn't realize that this was a series. Abrupt ending is quickly forgiven!)
