I didn’t pick this up because I’m a Shonda fan. I’ve never watched Grey’s. I watched a few seasons of Scandal after having foot surgery but then never kept up with it, and I’ve one season of HTGAWM. I know she has legions of die-hard fans, but I’m not one of them.

If you are willing to get past the fact that she is a rich, successful woman (and clearly a lot of reviewers of this book cannot) and you just read this as one woman’s journey, I think a lot of readers can relate to this book. Despite h

This was sweet, and thoughtful, and interesting in places. This was a really specific slice of life memoir, which circled around and repeated itself in places, but was a good light read. It's really about the year she decided to change her life by taking opportunities she otherwise wouldn't have, and setting boundaries to not be a doormat. I appreciated that it wasn't a heavy name dropping celebrity memoir. As a fellow extreme introvert, I enjoyed it and accept it at face value. ...more

iiii...am kinda surprised the writing in this book wasn't better? i mean rhimes is a writer, it's her job, and i've enjoyed what i've seen of her work (how to get away with murder). a lot of this book felt unpolished and repetitive though. good! but with definite stylistic weaknesses. still, it was addictive enough that i basically skipped dinner in favour of reading so:

I have mixed feelings about this book... I think part of it is because Shonda and I are very different people, so at times I found it difficult to relate with her. She is a super rich, famous, ivy-educated woman, and some of that is reflected in her story; an easy example of this: not everyone can have a Jenny McCarthy.

I found myself really liking the "behind the scenes" look into Grey's (even though I have not watched in years), which I think just reiterates what a GREAT storyteller she is, an

I see why people love this book--Shonda embraces parts of herself she didn't know were there in order to truly change her life. That's great, it worked for her and she doesn't necessarily suggest her path as the path for anyone else. It's the path for her, who has so often said no to things and hid out in her house. Now, I've watched my share of Grey's Anatomy and Scandal so I know a few things about those shows and I've learned that Shonda has truly written herself into those. In many ways, she ...more
