This was really good. I love books about complicated people.
I had this on my radar and then learned that it is a contender for the 2016 Tournament of Books, so I bumped it up in my reading order. The writing was lovely throughout, and the book was overall a nice exploration of some issues faced by the Turner family in 2008 Detroit. I appreciated the setting and time period, especially the context of the recession and how that affected the city, community, and family. 3.5 stars. A great first book, but the answers to hard questions came too easily. Engaging but not penetrating.
Really liked this novel about a big messy Detroit family in the wake of the mortgage meltdown.
I would give this between 3.5 and 4 stars. It was good, but not great. I found it especially interesting, being from Detroit.
