What Members Thought
This is the kind of book that makes you wish you'd had a classical education. LeGuin takes a minor character from the Aeneid and fleshes her out with the story she should have had. I wasn't actually in the mood for a war story, but the details of the life of this ancestor of Rome are fascinating. What really made this story stand out was Lavinia's relationship to Vergil who contacts her in sacred space, blurring the lines between legend/fiction/reality.

This book focuses on the female protagonist lens within a world of Latin mythology - without the plot presence of Roman gods themselves. Beautifully restrained and deeply human in sentiment.
Beautiful, rich writing brings the story to life.
I read about half before I was forced to admit that I just was not interested. I was bored and that was sad because I love the author so very much.
A wonderful and lovely story, woven from threads of the Aenied. It reminds me why I like Ursula LeGuin so much.
