I do love me some Margaret Atwood. We read this one in book club and it definitely made for some interesting discussions. Once again, Atwood places us in a dystopian society. This one starts out quirky and then slides right toward absurdity.

Meh,
this felt like same same same, not so much something bad or poorly written, I personally felt disengaged with the story.
I read it all, and was happy to have finished it but really am not feeling as though anything special came from the experience.
I felt there could have been more relation to the outside world, that ending felt rushed and exposed the plot weaknesses.

I'm still puzzled by what is this book. A dystopia? A commentary on for profit penal system? An exploration on free will and emotion? A farce?
I think I'm leaning towards the latter, but I found the execution disjointed. There is too much going on (extreme capitalism, human trafficking, sexual assault, capital punishment with no legal oversight), but no idea gets fully developed, and the absurdity of the plot feels at odds with its social commentary. ...more

My least favorite Atwood. Just meh.
Interesting idea that sadly didn't pan out.
