4.5 of 5 stars. I was already a fan of Margaret Atwood when I started this book. And it completely blew me away with this incredible page-turner story. I was so intrigued by this world that had evolved from our present day society - how did that happen? Is that even possible? I still don't think so, but in this book it did.

I really enjoyed "The Handmaid's Tale." I would describe this as 1984-esqe, looking at a future society that stripped women of their rights and their identity. Really glad I finally read this classic!

I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars on this one. Talk about disturbing. I found this actually uncomfortable to get through. The scenes with the Commander trying to impregnate his handmaid with the wife crying in the background were nauseating. On the other hand, it was a fascinating story, and very well written.
