Not much to say here without giving away the game. Code Name Verity delighted, scared, surprised me. I'd read other Wein books so I knew she was a good writer, but this one blows them all out of the water. At times confusing, this double narrative had a good deal of historical information to bolster the story of a friendship forged in wartime. The last quarter was sad and surprising.

Edited--Just reread this three years later, and it was even better the second time than the first!

I can't really write any details about this book for fear of spoiling it, but seriously, just read it. As many others have warned in other reviews, it is a bit difficult to get into, because of all of the airplane-details in the beginning, but the payoff (once you get to the second part) is completely worth it. This is a lovely book. Well-crafted on every level. Another one (like The Book Thief) that I'm not sure needs to be "pigeonholed" as Young Adult. But, I hope zillions of young women read it. ...more
