I put off reading this novel as long as I did, no matter how many of my friends recommended it to me, because I really hated the title.
I still hate the title. But I loved the book. The Guernsey Literary Society would actually have been quite a good name for the book, but I suppose the editor (and perhaps the author) felt that was too intellectual and intimidating-sounding. This was a completely charming and delightful book. Entirely told through letters between a writer and her friends, it's the story of the the island of Guernsey, which was occupied by Germany during WW II, and the friendships the developed during and afterward. It's historical fiction with books, friendships, humor and a bit of romance - what's not to love?!

Who doesn't love reading other people's letters? The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society was absolutely charming, but with harrowing tales of wartime atrocities. An excellent read! Thanks, Cherri!

It took me a while to get into this book because of how it's just letters between different people, but I ended up loving it! It makes me want to have a pen pal or two!
