I put off reading this novel as long as I did, no matter how many of my friends recommended it to me, because I really hated the title.
I still hate the title. But I loved the book. The Guernsey Literary Society would actually have been quite a good name for the book, but I suppose the editor (and perhaps the author) felt that was too intellectual and intimidating-sounding. A bit of a slow starter, but I'm glad I stuck with it as the last half of this book more than made up for it. Brilliant characters and characterisation - although I wasn't sure about the "letters" format, you could nearly always tell which character was writing (and often to whom).
