After I was slightly disappointed with 'Chicken and Plums', Satrapi's other OTHER graphic novel about her family, her uncle in particular, I was curious to read Embroideries and I was pleasantly surprised by what I discovered.

Although the double entendre of the book's title wasn't discussed enough, I found, perhaps for the complexity of opinions concerning it (Satrapi is more for stories about people in political times, not the politics themselves) but the dialogue between the multi-generations

A terrific follow-up to Persepolis. Bawdy, raunchy, tasty, hilarious. I like this comment on breast augmentation:
"Now I have big breasts and a little ass! Of course, this idiot doesn't know that every time he kisses my breasts, it's actually my ass he's kissing."

Satrapi's follow up to the 2 Persepolis books is another graphic novel. This one focuses on the private lives of Iranian women. It is a much quicker read than either Persepolis. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as I like Persepolis 1 & 2. I attended an author appearance by Satrapi while she was promoting this book. She's a captivating storyteller. ...more

Eh. Read it on the bus back from DC. It's nice. I like Persepolis better. Excited for the movie.

Still need to read Chicken with Plums, I think I'll like that more than this one ... waiting for paperback.

This lovely little graphic novel, shorter than the 4 part Persepolis takes place during an evening of drinking tea and intense gossip amongst a group of Iranian women. It's sweet and funny and sad... (June 19, 2005) ...more
