Very evocatively written. You could *feel* everything she was describing. Which, at some point, wasn't so good because it's already hot and humid here in DC in July, so reading about India didn't help all that much. This probably explains why so many people read about Shackleton in the summer. My next book is going to be one about snow and ice.

At first this book was hard to get into, even though I loved Roy's images, damn she is good with images, but I felt I was dragging through the book. It wasn't Roy's fault but my own. Sometimes it's hard to get into a book with delectable images and words, but sensing doom is upon you. I guess I just didn't want the doom part to happen, but of course it did. And of course I cried. Read this book, don't be afraid of the doom part, and enjoy the magnificent images Roy creates.
