For me this book was all surface and no real substance, the points made (especially the chapter on the dangers of masculine ideas on young men and the internet a space where women are both given a voice and denied one) were well done and the rhetoric is strong and persuasive. Where it falls down for me in the strong didactic tone and the implied idea that living any other way that doesn't place you outside of mainstream politics or culture is wrong and some kind of failure. i liked this but it felt very...limited in scope? which is understandable, laurie penny admits that she is young and is writing from her own perspective so i suppose the fact that the way this felt very very directed to a white middle class audience couldn't be helped

idk. i would maybe give it someone very new to feminism because i think it does express some of the anger and urgency fueling some of the movement in a way that feels non-threatening -- to me anyways, ymmv. plus penny is compelling
