More like 3.5 stars - I was conflicted. This was a painful read about life in Iran after the revolution and during the Iran-Iraq War. It's not really just about a book club, which was actually kind of disappointing for me, but I would have been happy to read the rest of the book, had I not been set up to believe that the whole book was more focused on a book club. I did relate a bit to Nafisi as a teacher running a book club, of sorts - which she called a private class, but it was really a book

Another book choice for the Accra Book Club! Originally I saw a copy in a used bookshop, and by pure chance brought it along when we were choosing books! I think I would have wished to really give it 3.5 stars. I found her discussions of life in Iran more interesting than the literary bits, but then that was probably because I hadn't read several of the books discussed/mentioned.

Nafisi has made me consider re-reading Fitzgerald, and trying Henry James and Jane Austen.
