More like 3.5 stars. Another book I started in late November, and had to stop for a month due to travels. When I picked it up, I couldn't believe how much I remembered from the first part.

What I liked most about this book was the female power within it and the community it can build. I liked Lily immersing herself into a world so outside of the norm and finding her true self. She becomes stronger when she's away from the environment that hurts her and when she's forced to make her own decisions.

Being 14-year-old girl in times of desegregation is hard, really hard. Thinking that you accidentelly killed your own mother, having abusive father is just the beginning. The rest is running away with black servant that was beaten at the police station and working at honey farm.
