I feel like Gone Girl was everywhere when it first came out which generally turns me off reading it. Even now, the wait list to get it from my library is epic. However, with the movie in the works, I thought I would give it a try for a quick read.
The first two-thirds of the book were fast-paced, exciting, and hard to put down! I loved the back and forth perspectives and dates in each chapter and all the twists and turns in the plot. The last third, however, was angsty and kind of emotionally gr ...more

This is the first book I will write a review for here. This book got under my skin in a different way than I'm use to. I started out really liking the voice and the story, then it started getting a little dark and I didn't know how I felt about it anymore but I had to keep reading. Through the second half of the book I was unable to stop reading but not convinced I liked what was going on. I finished it and can say I was captivated basically the whole way through but I was also so glad it was ov

I was engaged for the first third or so, but ended up hating both characters by halfway and was just dying for it to be over by the end. Also, for the audio edition, I could not stand the way the male narrator said the word wife- like of like "wayefe". The pacing was really slow in the audio version so I ended up speeding it up to 1.5 speed just to finish. It was a good premise, but ultimately a letdown.

I just finished reading this bracing, incredible story. Gillian Flynn is a marvelous storyteller and the backdrop of this novel is so brilliantly evocative and creepy in its surreal weirdness. I've never seen the reality of gothic midwestern failure so beautifully rendered. The characters are incredibly interesting and conflicted.
I definitely plan on reading all of Flynn's additional novels. ...more

I have mixed feelings about this book. Was it compelling and easy to listen to? Sure. I was anxious to know the end, but when I got there I was somewhat disappointed. Of all the crazy plot twists, it was the final one that threw me.
It's difficult to review this book without giving away too much. All I can say is that it is well-written and very well plotted. The author clearly has control of narrative and detail. The characters are very real, and I hated both of them. As for the central plot tw ...more

Wow. Love a book that makes you stay up all night to read and that you want to immediately re-read once you're done. There is so much cleverly thought out detail in the book my head is still spinning trying to process it all. No spoilers here. I am looking forward to the film for which Gillian Flynn has written a third act. I can only imagine what the third act is going to look like. A really great read. Wow again.
