What a fantastic book!! It was read by the author, and he has a reservation indian accent that is a pleasure to listen to. This story has so much heart and hope - it made me laugh and it made me cry (more laughing than crying, don't worry!) and it brought so many issues that contemporary Native Americans grapple with to light.
Great great story of a young man's decision to change schools and the broadening implications of this into all areas of his life and culture.

Minority report: maybe I just went into this with crazy expectations, but I was underwhelmed. Sure, the comics were original, there was insight into life on a reservation, and there was a rather charming and direct narrator, but this book fell a bit flat for me. Not a single relationship was well-developed, and I was hoping for more depth. Still an enjoyable and educational read though!

This is a very popular book that comes highly recommended from many quarters and it's strength is the voice of the main character, Junior, as he negotiates the two separate worlds he finds himself in. While I found some of the middle a big bogged down, but the eloquence of the end, the deep tragedies, and the complexity of the characters make this a very compelling book.

I have been wanting to read this book forever and finally got to. I read almost all of it over a four-hour period. It was visceral and wonderful and draining and hilarious. I loved it.
