4.5. Very well researched, intense book. It was a recount of the women's lives, but it was also a micro-history of Victorian London and the social customs of the time. So, so much empathy for these victims. It was not an easy life, to be a woman in that time, let alone a destitute woman. Elisabeth I felt especially strongly for; what she endured in Sweden must have been absolutely soul-crushing. ...more
