From unreliable narrators to character flaws, Hawkins succeedingly keeps readers in suspense until the end of her story. I appreciated how she wrote Rachel's character as a relatable person without justifying her drinking problems; she's a normal, caring person who wants to help others. Her story shows how reaching out to others, though messy at times, can make a big difference. Also, Hawkins wrote the characters brilliantly because you essentially hated everyone.
