I'd give this a solid 2.5.
The beginning was really slow and didn't grab my interest at all. It wasn't until after the first tragedy that things started to pick up a little. The dual timeline portion in the middle was probably my favorite part of the book. The "ghost story" portion at the end was kind of weird and graphic at times, but it was not as bad as I expected based on other reviews.
