I've always refused to read any non-canon Sherlock Holmes stuff since I first read the originals. All of them seemed to focus on Moriarity anyways, and that was kind of annoying since he wasn't actually that prevalent in the stories. Anyways, I saw that this one was endorsed by Conan Doyle's family, so I gave it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised! This was...darker then I was expecting. I was cringing several times. HOWEVER, with that said. I have been a Sherlock Holmes fan for most of my life, and I have read all of his adventures. Horowitz does a fantastic job of slipping into Arthur Conan Doyle's shoes! The voice and style are the same, (view spoiler)

Nicely done, and very much in the style of Arthur Conan Doyle. There's quite a bit here, including hidden keys, disguises, carriage chases, a sinister carnival and a locked-room mystery, all in a fairly short book.
I do wish that there were a better way to denote evil-minded individuals than children in peril, however.
