Once again Ahdieh has spun a gripping tale with a (strong - even though I know she hates that descriptor) female lead that makes you want to keep turning pages. Mariko's character took a bit of time to grow on me (probably because there was a lot of telling about her intelligence in the beginning rather than showing), but there was plenty of driving plot and wit to keep me interested until I grew to like her more and her actions began to prove her characteristics.
