I listened to the audio of this book, read by the author. Abby grew up in Pittsford NY and graduated from the same high school (Mercy) - 13 years behind me. It was fun to hear her refer to Rochester, Mercy, some of our teachers, Camp Stella Maris and Wambach Farms. I’ve never been a soccer fan but really got into listening to Abby recount many of her exciting games in great detail. She is an intense, caring person and strong leader. This was a really honest memoir. I had no idea about the struggles going on in Abby's personal life during her career. It was refreshing and down to earth. It explained a lot of things about her career and public life that I never noticed before (usually caused by a hidden alcohol/drug addiction), which was cool to see a celebrity being so open about everything going on in their life. ...more

A quick, eye-opening read. Abby may have been one of the most famous female athletes of all time, but being a professional soccer player was not all it seemed. She tells us about her struggles with feeling inadequate, her addictions, and ability to find and keep love in her life. I appreciated her honesty, and felt hopeful for her.
