I finally got around to reading this bestselling memoir, and I can understand the buzz behind it!
The author, Tara Westover, grew up in the mountains of Idaho and was raised by survivalists who believed in government conspiracies. They were highly religious and didn't send their kids to school, never went to the doctors, and just generally lived a very sheltered existence.

Really interesting memoir, and well written. At times, this memoir was truly painful to read. Growing up in an isolated, fundamentalist Mormon home, Tara Westover struggles to find her sense of self in an atmosphere that is controlled, bizarre, and at times - frightening. This audio book was very tough to listen to but also hard to stop. It’s the story of rigid survivalist Mormons that are self-reliant and living off the grid in Idaho. They are prepping for doomsday. They don’t get medical attention when they need it. I can’t believe how ignorant these people were and the hold they had on their daughter even after she started to get an education. At times I wanted to shake Tara Westover. This book reminded me a lot of “where the crawdad sing”. I am glad I listene
