Creepy, haunting story of two girls: Mary, an introvert who makes puppets and lives in a girls' home in 1982, and Ella Clarke who lives in the modern day next to the abandoned Thornhill home. Mary's story is told through diary entries and Ella's is told through black and white illustrations. The book is very suspenseful as the mystery starts to unfold and we learn the girls' stories.
