I find it difficult to review something that I felt was well written, but I didn't like - which is how I felt about this book. It is painful to read about this family - but eye opening. Poverty is never a pretty sight, and coupled with drug use, incarceration, racism, and murder - it's one tough read. I felt so badly for Jo Jo - I wanted his mom, Leonie, to care and place her children's needs ahead of her own, but to no avail.
