It is an obvious sign of really good writing when you can't stop reading a book in which you despise most of the main characters. (And the audiobook reader was excellent btw). Even though Scarlett, Rhett, Ashley, Melanie and their friends all had major flaws, I found myself wanting to know what happened to them next. This book was dense. I'm not going to fully address the deeply embedded racism and problematic language in this novel, because it is mostly a product of the time it was written and the time it depicts. I will say the first n-word dropped felt like a slap in the face, so prepare yourself, it is chockfull of outdated and uncomfortable language and ideas.

I read this book a while back, I think at least 9 years-ago. At the time I was blown away by this epic tale. Ironically enough I've never seen the whole movie, which I've heard is just as good. Maybe I should pick up the book again sometime soon and refresh my memory.
