Liked but did not love. The storyline of the women, witches and water was fascinating, but there were some loose ends for me. A lot of characters to keep track of in the beginning - I had to go back and re-read chapters to keep myself straight. Does anyone else wonder what happened to Jeanne - the psychic's sister? I love the descriptive writing and felt like I could see the town, the people, etc.

Okay I lied, I didn't really finish, but I came darn close. I skimmed the last 70 pages or so. This story could be told in way less words. There are very few books that I haven't stuck with until the very end and unfortunately this is one of them. I loved Girl on the Train so I assumed I would be equally enamored of this one. Not so--I couldn't wait for it to end, hated all the characters, didn't care who killed who or how they died. Each chapter is told from a different character's perspective

Fooled into reading this book because of comparisons to Girl on the Train. The cast of characters and points of view in this book are very confusing. I didn't get the plot at all. It's eerie, depressing and pointless. There is only one redeeming quality and that is the excellent writing. Ugh I don't recommend this book snd I'm mad that I wasted time on it when I have so many other books on my list to read.

The story got better as it went on. Various narrators and different perspectives tell the story of the drowning pool and all of those involved in the community. The last quarter of so of it was where it really picked up, especially toward the end. Pretty good follow-up to The Girl on the Train to which I'd give a 3.5/5.
