Really enjoyed this novel that depicted a fictionalized version of a woman we know little about - Kate Warne, the first female Pinkerton detective. Some of the know cases that Kate Warne worked on are here, but MacAllister has some leyway in constructing Kate's character since many details of her work were lost when files burned in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
