What an intense little adventure ride this one was! SO much craziness and drama… I loved it.

Dawn is a 30 year old married woman who enjoys going on luxurious getaways with her husband. Her upbringing was far from ideal, and she likes to “play rich” by staying at fancy homes and pretending she’s wealthy… an escape from reality, if you will. There’s something dark and off about her though and it’s hard to put your finger on what it is.

Dawn is a 30 year old married woman who enjoys going on luxurious getaways with her husband. Her upbringing was far from ideal, and she likes to “play rich” by staying at fancy homes and pretending she’s wealthy… an escape from reality, if you will. There’s something dark and off about her though and it’s hard to put your finger on what it is.

Miranda is a wealthy doctor’s wife and has a son with a drug problem. She rents out their second home as an act of desperation. She NEEDS that money, which she keeps secret from her husband.

When Dawn receives an email from Miranda after her most recent getaway, stating that $200 of her security deposit is being forfeited due to a gray stain left behind on the sheets, she is FURIOUS. She insists that she did not leave any such stain, and leaves a negative review online of Miranda’s rental. Words are exchanged between the two women who eventually become obsessed with their little argument. Things continue to escalate as each woman refuses to back down and be wrong.

I was pulled in from the very start of this book, which is narrated alternately by both Miranda and Dawn. Each character is so distinct and even mysterious. Dark undertones run through the course of the whole story and the momentum builds from the beginning, going nonstop.

It’s hard to tell which character is right and I found myself constantly thinking, “this lady is crazy!” then five minutes later thinking, “No, THIS one is crazy.” I loved that back and forth between the women that had ME going back and forth myself. It’s like watching a really heated and intense tennis match.

You might think to yourself, “why on earth do either of these women care so much about this stupid security deposit?” And it’s so true! They let their little argument take over their lives. They are fixated and obsessed with destroying each other, with being “right.” But then again, I know sometimes I’ll deal with someone who says one rude little thing and I’ll stew over it and let it ruin my whole day. This situation is like that, but tenfold.

I honestly had a blast tearing through these pages and trying to understand the true motivations behind each woman. Dawn in particular is an intriguing character. I really didn’t like her at all and felt like she was living a life of lies and secrets. She gave off a bad vibe which just made the book more fun.

I definitely recommend this one if you’re a fan of psychological thrillers and tension… this book has tension for DAYS! And also, it’s psychological AND psycho… crazy ladies, you guys. A big thumbs up from me!
