What Members Thought
I've been wanting to read this for a long time, as I'm a huge fan of "1984" and taught it when I was teaching. I so admire George Orwell for his "imbedded journalism", but for some reason, I didn't love this the way I loved similar books, like Hemingway's "A Moveable Feast". Maybe because my expectations were for it to be MORE like "A.M.F.", but it was more grim, which really, is much more realistic when you're dealing with poverty. I was enthralled by this book. I felt as if I was down and out in Paris and London with him! I enjoyed the descriptions of working in hotels in Paris.
