This is a thought provoking novel, one that should be read by anyone interested in women's rights. An interesting futuristic tale of a society that uses women for breeding for an upper class - many are denied traditional family units and a choice or a voice in the direction of their lives. I'm still thinking about it.

This is one of those books I should have read a long time ago, but just got around to it. It is, I think, appropriate that I finished this book today, the day that hundreds of thousands of women are marching around the world and in Washington for equality and autonomy. Right now, I want to change all my online profiles and accounts to M.

I couldn't put this book down. It was like a nightmare: a tangible nightmare you could actually envision happening, but so utterly twisted, so bizarre, that at the same time you couldn't; you didn't want to. I kept picking the book up, wanting to know more... what could possibly happen next, in this perverted, corrupt and surreal future society?
The protagonist was wonderful. Oh, how my heart went out to her! To think of everything she went through; I had to keep reminding myself it is just ...more

In my second time reading it, it was a lot more eerie to read this book in 2017 than in 2007. Margaret Atwood gives you more and more details as the story unfolds about this world in which women lose their rights and identities. I was thinking this might have to be a yearly re-read, especially during the next few years. I ultimately didn't reread it in the rest of the 2010s as I ended up seeking out other new dystopian reads and also many escapist reads.
