This took me forever to get started on, but once I did I was hooked. I know this was written decades ago, but now the events of the book are so near future that it is terrifying to imagine our society devolving into this chaotic world in just a few years from now. Yet, it does not seem entirely impossible, which is the scariest part. Some sections were weird but I enjoyed the themes of trust and building a community. I really loved Kindred by this author, and was reading this book for a sci-fi challenge. I found it to be more dystopian than sci-if. But I need to remember when this was written. It is very unsettling to see the picture of California that butler was imagining is not far fetched in light of what is happening in todays world- the book is set in 2025-2027.
