2.5 stars if I could. It’s a good piece of historical fiction and obviously well researched but I vacillated between liking it and being annoyed by the heroine. Stubbornness I can handle (pot, meet kettle), but being inordinately hard-headed and taking several drawn-out episodes to learn to same lesson until it finally sinks in just ended up leaving me with a sense of déjà vu at certain points throughout the novel. It just seemed to make the book drag on a bit.
Reads like a long Harlequin romance. Only got about half-way through and couldn't finish it.

Technically a re-read, though I read it long enough ago (1998, maybe?) that I'd forgotten all the details. Enjoyed her writing, and will probably continue to meander through the rest of the series.
