We just finished this for my fabulous book club. Let me preface that by saying, I'm usually very suspicious of New York Times bestsellers. Maybe it's the contratarian in me, although it's just as likely that I'm often disappointed when a book is hyped up and then it falls short of my high expectations. Either way, I was prepared to be less than enthused by this one. But I truly enjoyed it. I fell in love with Ove. I didn't love this book until 2/3rds of the way through it, mostly because Ove is such a curmudgeon. But I cried when I finished it, mostly because Ove is such a curmudgeon, and yet this book is filled with love and hope and principles. ...more

I loved this book from Sweden, it could have taken place anywhere. Quirky and sweet, a curmudgeon who finds life is worth living after the death of his wife. It made me laugh and cry.

This one has been on my list a long time and I kept thinking it looked boring despite the positive reviews. Very touching story about an old grouchy curmudgeon that finds his worth again. I enjoyed the flashbacks to his life with his wife before she passed away. I enjoyed how the neighbors banned together to help one another face challenges.
